Texas A Cash Cow for Rudy

The Dallas Morning News reported on Monday that Rudy has raised $2.2 million in the Lone Star state.

Mr. Giuliani benefited from being a name partner at the Houston law firm Bracewell and Giuliani (whose Texas partners gave $47,000) as well as having one-time Texas Republican moneyman Roy Bailey as his national finance chief.

As a result, he raised as much in Texas as his GOP competitors combined.

“Rudy had a great team,” said Dallas businessman and long-time Republican Richard Collins. “They got motivated and decided they were going to take charge and it shows in their success.”

From US News Daily Political Bulletin:

The Wall Street Journal reports Texas oil man T. Boone Pickens Jr. “is betting big money on a bull market in another commodity: the presidential candidacy of Rudy Giuliani.” Pickens “says he has raised more than $500,000 for Mr. Giuliani’s campaign,” and his “emergence…as a high-profile fund-raiser underscores the emphasis the Giuliani campaign is placing on Texas, as all the leading Republicans scramble for financial backing of the wealth machine that in 2000 helped” President Bush. Giuliani “recorded $2.2 million of Texas donations in the first three months of the year, of his total $14.7 million take.”
