Fred Thompson Alludes to Need for Giuliani

by

UPDATE: WA for Rudy here.  This is officially our 100th post!!!  Congrats to Ohio for Rudy!

…or so it seemed to me.  As the Cinderella story unfolds, Thompson comments, “Ronald Reagan believed in something. How much we need that today. He showed what can be done if you have the will to push for tough choices, and the ability to ask the people to accept them.”

Are we to believe that a man with no executive experience is the man with that will and ability?  Who embodies the ‘will to push for tough choices’ and ‘the ability to ask the people to accept them’ more than Rudy Giuliani?

Fred Thompson may prove to be a solid candidate, but the comparisons to Reagan are a bit much.  Yes, Reagan was an actor before running for the presidency, but he was also the governor of an enormous and tremendously diverse state.  He was more than a party operative.  He had more than a strong jaw and commanding voice.  He was a proven leader.  Rudy Giuliani is a proven leader.

When the clock strikes midnight, Rudy will still be there, ready to lead.

I tend to agree that the whole “Fred’s an actor, Reagan was an actor, therefore Fred is the next Reagan” logic is flawed. But as the Telegraph article you linked to points out, getting Reagan’s top deputies on board does give him more credibility to assume the “Reagan mantle.” And, the article does appear to be accurate in another sensel Thompson is gaining popularity among an interesting constituency: the dissaffected wing of the GOP. He may very well be the candidate that all of those undecideds land on. Thompson is also rumored to be very close to John McCain. That could be an interesting duo…but others tell me if Thompson gets in the race, it will be for the Presidency and only that.

Now, all that being said, Rudy would give Thompson a run for his money. Matched against the executive experience of Rudy, that Hollywood image could fade fast. Another problem with Thompson & McCain: They’re both Senators, and the Elite 100 have never fared very well in presidential elections.

Posts on other candidates is a welcome addition to this blog! I can’t do enough to encourage this!

It’s time to grip it and rip it once and for all on the Rudy Giuliani bandwagon before its too late. Just for a moment, judge this man, not as the Man of the Year who brought New York City

    This is a great post.

Let me say that after crawling through a Free Republic/”Freeper” thread on Sir Giuliani, a lot of the Fred Thompson people are going to be new folks full of hate & bile for our man.

But Newt Gingrich could be a real, genuine wild card!

One thing’s for sure, we’ve invested into a candidate that’s going to demand lots of effort and loyalty.

The NW blog, Sound Politics, has some good discussion in the comments thread about Thompson, McCain, and Giuliani.
